Veterinary Nurses

Introducing Fiona, our fantastic Head nurse. Fiona has been with AHVEC from the very start in 2011, sharing her experience that comes from 15 years in the industry. Whilst at AHVEC, Fiona became the first nurse in Tasmania to receive her Diploma in Veterinary Nursing Emergency and Critical Care. She loves everything about her job, from nursing the critical patients, spending time getting patients to feel comfortable in hospital and treating the wildlife that arrives.

When she is at home, Fiona loves the outdoors, spending her time in her garden or going bushwalking, and has a keen interest in photography. She shares her home with her partner, dogs Poppy and Bella, and her 17 chickens.

Introducing Penny, a marvelous member of our nursing team. Penny has over 18 years experience as a veterinary nurse, joining the AHVEC team in 2011. She has completed her Certificate 4 in Veterinary Nursing and is always looking for ways to expand her knowledge with training. Penny loves nursing patients undergoing surgery, closely monitoring their anaesthetics. She also has a passion for client services, making all clients feel at ease during their visit to AHVEC.

Outside of work, Penny loves spending time with her young family and her menagerie of animals. This includes her dogs Judd, Tiggy and Molly, cats Sam, Wally, Oscar, Mushroom, Elsa and Harry, rabbit Mr Boggle and fish Dora, Garry Balance, Nemo and Barry.

Introducing Angela, a wonderful member of our nursing team. Angela has been in the veterinary industry for 9 years, a member of the AHVEC team since 2012 and is a qualified Certificate 4 veterinary nurse. She is currently completing her Diploma in Veterinary Nursing Emergency and Critical Care. Angela is in her element when treating the most critical patients and those that are very sick on arrival.

Outside of work, Angela enjoys spending time in the great outdoors, travelling or camping, as well as spending time with her husband, Australian Cattle Dog cross Jazz, cow Stripey and her many other poultry family members.

Introducing Leah, a remarkable member of our nursing team. Leah joined AHVEC in 2012 and has continued to grow with AHVEC since. She has been a Veterinary Nurse for 9 years, and enjoys the challenges that come from nursing the critical patient and triaging the emergency patients.

Outside of AHVEC, Leah enjoys spending time with her daughter and close family, including her dogs Maxx and Woody, cats Lucy and Doc, and Mac the bird.

Introducing Helen, an excellent member of our nursing team. Helen has been nursing for many years (35+) and has her Certificate 4 in Veterinary Nursing, as well as being a qualified Equine and Bovine AI Technician. She joined the AHVEC team in 2014 and has been a vital member ever since. Helen’s special interest areas include radiology and surgery, and she is always looking for ways to expand her skills in these areas.

When she isn’t at work, Helen enjoys doing crazy fitness things like running Tough Mudder on a regular basis. Helen loves spending her down time at home with her family and herd of animals including Ted the Labrador, George the boxer, Spaco the cat, Fergus the Highland Pony and many more.

Introducing Nina, a terrific member of our nursing team. Nina moved to Hobart from Slovenia and joined the AHVEC team in 2015. She has over 7 years experience, having obtained her veterinary nursing qualification from the Biotechnical Educational Centre in Slovenia. Nina loves all aspects of her job and is especially enjoying learning all about the Tasmanian wildlife that we treat.

When she isn’t at work, Nina loves trying new things, like surfing and exploring the Tasmanian Wilderness. She also spends her private time at home with her husband and their two tabby cats, Beans and Tomato.
